With the ally of good weather, the Holy Spirit weekend of 2025 marked the beginning of the summer season and the first island getaways.
According to Ferryhopper’s booking data, the nearby islands of the Saronic Gulf and the Cyclades swept this year, with Aegina topping the list of preferences once again.
More specifically, the top 10 most popular islands for the 2025 Holy Spirit weekend were:
Agistri recorded an impressive increase in bookings this year, especially for one-day getaways. The short distance from Athens and the intense summer atmosphere of the island made Agistri one of the favourite destinations for the weekend.
Last minute reservations
A significant number of bookings were made at the last minute, with travellers booking their tickets at the last minute, a fact confirmed by Ferryhopper data.
One of the most interesting aspects of this year’s Spirit Weekend was the large increase in pet bookings, showing that travellers’ four-legged friends were part of the excursion again this year.
Travel preferences by generation
Demographic booking data reveals trends in terms of the preferences of each age group.
Gen X and Millennials, travellers aged 30-55 years old, mostly chose relaxed but cosmopolitan destinations. Aegina, Kythnos, Syros, Agistri and Tinos topped their preferences. Notable is the presence of Lemnos in the top ten of Millennials, which seems to have an upward trend this year in overall bookings.
Gen Z, the younger generation (18-29 years old), gave a vote of confidence to trendier destinations, with Aegina and Agistri also starring here, while Paros, Naxos and Mykonos complete the top five.
