THE BEST PASTA IN ATHENS

Linguini, rigatoni, carbonara, bolognese… we could talk for hours about delicious pasta, a food that is number 1 in most people’s favorite dishes list. But where can you find the best pasta in Athens?

If you want to eat pasta in Athens the options are endless. An Italian restaurant pops up on every street, and even cafes and all-day shops serve pasta.

So if you want to find the most delicious and exquisite flavours you need a little more research. But you don’t have to search too much because here we have prepared a list of the best pasta restaurants to visit in Athens.

Read the list below to discover the best restaurants for pasta in Athens.

The best pasta restaurants in Athens

The Eatalians – Mario & Luigi

I’ll start my list with the restaurant that I believe has the best pasta in Athens.

Of course I’m talking about The Eatalians – Mario & Luigi in Ilioupoli (190 El. Venizelos Avenue). It’s a beautiful place with delicious dishes that you honestly don’t know which one to choose first.

If I had to choose just two pasta dishes I would choose the Giolina Alla Chitarra with pork cheek guanciale, egg yolk and pecorino romano cheese, and the delicious Ludovica Malfadine with truffle paste, parmesan cream and mushrooms.

Apart from pasta, you can also try pizzas made with pure ingredients in the wood-fired oven.

Brunello

Another heaven on earth of Italian cuisine is Brunello (21b Loukianou Street, Athens 106 75).

It’s a modern restaurant in the heart of Athens where you can enjoy Italian flavours with a glass of wine.

Two of the dishes I definitely recommend you to try are the truffle-flavoured cacio e pepe and the linguini with fresh shrimps, vegetables and herbs.

Belpaese

Near the Acropolis Museum you will find Belpaese (Athanasios Diakou 6), which takes you on a journey to Italy as soon as you step foot in the shop.

We started our meal with tomato and garlic bruschetta, and of course we didn’t skip the pasta. We had carbonara, with linguini, smoked pancetta, egg yolk and pecorino romano cheese and rigatoni cacio e pepe with pecorino romano cheese, parmesan and black pepper.

The portions were quite large and the prices were very reasonable. If you are looking for authentic Italian pasta in Athens you should definitely visit it.

Alex the Fresh Pasta Bar

In Kolonaki you will find Alex the Fresh Pasta Bar (16 Massalias 16), where you can try Alex Vassilatou’s special recipes with handmade pasta.

I should note here that you can buy fresh pasta, sauces and large pans ready to bake (for example, if you get one, choose the Kleopatra lasagna).

All the dishes are worth a try, but the three that stand out and I recommend are the “Cleopatra” with pappardelle or whole wheat linguini with secret spicy red sauce, the pasta “Valencia” which is linguini with chicken and orange and of course my favorite, the “troufaki”.

Pasta shell (or rigatoni) with mushrooms and white sauce with black truffle, it’s simply the best!

Malconi’s

Since 2011 you will find Malconi’s Italian restaurant in Athens (23 Patriarchou Ioakim & Plutarchou).

You can enjoy your food in a beautiful space along with special cocktails. Some times, the classic dishes are the best option. So here too, one of the best pasta dishes you can choose is the bolognese pasta, with rigatoni, hand-cut beef bolognese sauce, parmesan cream and pecorino cheese.

If you don’t refer red sauce, then try the truffle alfredo pasta, with linguini, parmesan reggiano butter and fresh black truffle.

On the more special dishes you’ll find the King Crab pasta with linguine, king crab, white asparagus cream, lime, coconut milk and chilli. What do you think?

Ovio

One of the best Italian restaurants in the heart of Athens is Ovio (Apollonos 4, Athens 105 57).

It may not be a pasta dish, but here I’ll start first with the mushroom trifolata risotto, which is delicious.

The pasta that won me over at Ovio is the cacio e pepe tartufata with spaghetti chitarra. Pair it with a cool caprese salad with burrata.

Cupola

One of my favorite Italian restaurants is located in the pedestrian street in Pagrati (13 Evforionios Street) since 2017 and is ready to take you on a trip to Italy.

I have to mention that they have incredible pizzas that you should definitely try, but now I’m going to tell you about the pasta.

The pasta with pappardelle ragu, braised beef scallop & San Marzano tomato sauce is one of the most delicious dishes on the menu.

In addition, one of the special dishes is the fregola gamberi pasta, it is with handmade pasta, fresh shrimp, squid, pumpkin, saffron and bisque.

But my favourites are the cappelli den prete, homemade mushroom ravioli with mascarpone, white and black truffle cream.
