ANNECY

Annecy

Tucked away at the foot of the French Alps and often called the “Venice of the Alps,” Annecy is a picture-perfect destination that blends natural beauty with historical charm.

Set along the shores of Lake Annecy—one of the cleanest lakes in Europe—this fairytale town is ideal for romantic getaways, nature lovers, and travelers seeking a taste of culture, history, and relaxation.

What to see in Annecy

Vieille Ville

Annecy’s Old Town, or Vieille Ville, is a charming maze of narrow cobblestone streets, pastel-colored medieval buildings, arched bridges, and canals flowing with crystal-clear water.

Lively markets, cozy cafés, and traditional restaurants line the streets, offering visitors the perfect place to wander, shop, and savor the town’s unique atmosphere.

Musée-Château d’Annecy

Overlooking the Old Town, the Château d’Annecy was once the residence of the Counts of Geneva. Today, it houses a museum featuring regional art, Alpine history, and exhibits on the lake’s environment and biodiversity.

Beyond its cultural value, the castle offers panoramic views over Annecy and its stunning lake.

Palais de l’Île

Arguably the most photographed site in Annecy, the Palais de l’Île is a medieval building located on a tiny island in the Thiou River.

Resembling the bow of a ship, this 12th-century palace has served as a courthouse, prison, and administrative center, and now operates as a local history museum. It’s the ultimate symbol of the city.

Jardins de l’Europe

The Gardens of Europe are a serene, leafy escape located just by the lake. With walking paths, sculptures, and sweeping lawns, they offer a relaxing setting for a picnic or a romantic stroll. The park also connects to other key landmarks like the famous lovers’ bridge.

Pont des Amours

The Pont des Amours, or “Lovers’ Bridge,” is a delicate iron footbridge offering breathtaking views of the lake and canal.

Legend has it that if two people kiss while standing on the bridge, they will stay together forever. Whether or not you believe the myth, the romance is undeniable.

Lac d’Annecy

The lake is Annecy’s crown jewel. Known for its clean, turquoise waters, it’s ideal for boating, swimming, kayaking, paddle boarding, or simply relaxing by the shore.

Scenic walking and cycling paths circle the lake, offering constant views of the surrounding mountains. In the summer, it becomes a popular retreat for both locals and international visitors.
