Luxembourg, the small but ultra-modern capital of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, combines history with modern life and offers unique sights worth discovering.

From medieval castles to modern architectural treasures, the city impresses visitors with its diversity. Luxembourg is one of the safest countries in Europe and generally has very low crime rates. 

Luxembourg’s historic city centre is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site due to its unique architecture and strategic location in Europe.

Getting around Luxembourg

The city’s main airport is Luxembourg-Findel Airport (LUX), which connects the city to many European capitals.

You can reach Luxembourg from other nearby places, such as Brussels, by train or bus.

The city has an excellent public transport network, including buses and trams. In fact, from 2020, Luxembourg will be the first country in the world to offer free public transport to everyone. 

The city centre is ideal for walking and cycling.

Rocher du Bock

One of the most recognisable and historic spots in the city, Rocher du Bock offers spectacular views from above. 

It is a rock that has been carved and shaped in the form of a castle and was the core of the ancient city of Luxembourg. From there, visitors can enjoy stunning views of the surrounding lands and city walls, and it is the perfect spot for photographs.

Pont du Stierchen

The Pont du Stierchen bridge connects the old quarters of Luxembourg with the modern sector of the city. 

A walk over the Alzette River is a treat for all visitors, with the bridge combining traditional architecture with modern buildings. 

Abbey of Neumünster  

The Abbey of Neumünster is a stunning historic site where visitors can see the architectural heritage of Luxembourg.

This abbey is now open to the public and hosts cultural events and exhibitions.

Chem de la Corniche

The famous Chem de la Corniche route, also known as “The Route of Europe”, is considered one of the most beautiful walks in the city. 

Overlooking the city’s valleys and picturesque streets, it offers a unique experience, filled with historical and natural landscapes. The route passes by impressive sites such as the old walls and secret galleries of Luxembourg.

Palais Grand-Ducal

Palais Grand-Ducal is the impressive palace of the Grand Ducal Family.

It is located in the heart of Luxembourg and is only open to the public at certain times of the year.Visitors can admire the royal architecture and interior of the palace, and there is a beautiful garden in the surrounding area.

Place Guillaume II

Place Guillaume II is a central square, which connects history with the modern life of the city.

The square is home to various restaurants, cafes and shops, and is the perfect spot to enjoy a coffee and observe the daily life of the locals. The statue of King William II is the focal point of the square, and many historic buildings stretch around it.

Cathedral of Our Lady (Cathédrale Notre-Dame)

The Cathedral of Our Lady is an impressive Gothic church, dating back to the 17th century.

It is dedicated to the Virgin Mary and features beautiful stained glass and sculptures. It is located in the old town and is one of the most important religious and architectural sites in the city.

Cercle Cité

Cercle Cité is a cultural centre that houses exhibitions, theatre performances and cultural events. 

The building is a magnificent example of neoclassical architecture, and functions as a multi-purpose space that combines history with contemporary culture.

It’s located at Place d’Armes, one of the city’s liveliest squares, combining historic buildings, shops and cafés. 

Constitution Square

Constitution Square is an important square in Luxembourg City, offering great views of the valley and surrounding landscapes. 

The square is home to the Luxembourg Soldiers’ Memorial, which commemorates those who died during the First World War.

The square is also surrounded by quaint cafes and restaurants, and is ideal for a leisurely stroll or a panoramic view of the city.
