Condé Nast Traveler: CYCLADES AND 5 OTHER DESTINATIONS IN EUROPE FOR 2024

We’ve just entered the second month of 2024, which means there’s plenty of time to plan a trip outside of Greece before the end of the year. For those who want to get to know the Old Continent better, Condé Nast Traveler presents some of the best destinations in Europe for 2024.

Its selections are based on a number of factors, including new hotel and restaurant openings, architecture, culture and sustainability.

As you’re likely looking for new travel destinations and experiences but don’t know where to go, Condé Nast Traveler has picked out 6 destinations within Europe for you.

6 destinations to travel to in Europe

Antwerp

Chances are, when you hear of Belgium, you think of Brussels or Bruges – and (almost) certainly not Antwerp.

And yet, it’s the country’s second largest – and perhaps most interesting – city, its largest port and the city through which the world’s largest amount of rough diamonds pass.

Antwerp is renowned for its impressive railway station, its avant-garde fashion, its culture – well worth a visit to the open-air Middleheim Museum and the Rubenshuis, the home and studio of the famous painter Peter Paul Rubens – and its high concentration of Michelin-starred restaurants in relation to its size.

Asturias

One of the interesting trends of recent years, which is partly related to the pandemic, is the development of eco-tourism and the profile of the environmentally conscious traveller. In this context, Asturias in Northern Spain does not need to rebrand to attract this new type of traveller.

The tagline “Asturias, natural paradise” was created almost 40 years ago and perfectly describes the Spanish autonomous community that welcomed more than 2.4 million visitors last year.

If you’re environmentally aware, you have seven reasons to choose Asturias for your next trip, as many as the UNESCO Biosphere Reserves found in the region.

Budapest

Imperial and imposing, Budapest is a European destination that satisfies both architecture lovers and those seeking a romantic atmosphere. And, in any case, lovers of instagrammable aesthetics.

The city offers… an eye candy to those who like to see buildings of different eras and movements, as here you will find Art Nouveau architecture with Baroque, Gothic and neoclassical elements. Moreover, it also offers literal baths and opportunities for related treatments – from the famous Széchenyi baths to Turkish baths and elaborate spas.

Mallorca

The cosmopolitan island of Spain is an ideal European destination for those who seek discreet luxury and high quality service, but also emphasize sustainability. Of course, Mallorca is renowned for its heavenly beaches, great weather, excellent cuisine, culture and vibrant nightlife.

As far as accommodation is concerned, it is worth mentioning that prices are generally reasonably priced, given Mallorca’s profile, and you will find a wide range of options – from hostels to all-inclusive resorts.

Cyclades

If you don’t want to stray from the geographical boundaries of our country, then you’ll probably be pleased to see that Condé Nast Traveler recommends a trip to the Cyclades for 2024.

In fact, in the context of their popularity, it notes that major international airlines such as Etihad, British Airways and Saudia have increased their flights to various Cycladic islands in 2023, while new hotels are expected to open in 2024.

Northern Italy

For the first time, the first three stages of the 2024 Tour de France will be held in Italy, a historic moment for the country, the sport and the famous race.

The event will start in Florence on 29 June and finish in Nice on 21 July, climbing the Apennines and the Italian Alps, France, Massif Sant’l and the Pyrenees, and will include two time trials, one of them on the last day, and unpaved roads for the first time in its history.

Of course, northern Italy need not wait for the Tour de France to become famous as it is already renowned for its gastronomic heritage.

A trip to Europe is probably the best thing you can do to gain new experiences without spending endless hours on board. Plus, it can be an economical option, depending, of course, on the destination you choose.

Maybe it’s time to plan your next trip?
