Valentine’s Day is the perfect excuse to see Athens through a different lens.
Behind the noise and busy streets, the city hides corners full of atmosphere, breathtaking views, and experiences that feel straight out of a movie.
Athens may not be the most romantic place in the world, but with the right person by your side, you can enjoy a truly wonderful and romantic evening.
If you have no idea what to do with your partner on Valentine’s Day, below you’ll find some ideas to inspire you.
Romantic activity ideas in Athens
Sunset walk on Filopappou Hill
Perhaps the most romantic view in Athens. Walk along the paths with your partner, with the Acropolis as a backdrop, and sit at a spot overlooking the city as the sun sets.
Dinner on a rooftop with a view of the Acropolis
Athens lights up magically at night. Book a table at a rooftop restaurant or bar in the city center and enjoy dinner with views of the illuminated Parthenon. A classic choice, but always impressive.
You won’t have trouble finding one, as Athens is full of romantic rooftops. Afterwards, you can take a stroll through Plaka and Anafiotika.
Picnic with a view
If the weather allows, prepare a small basket with wine, cheeses, and sweets and find a quiet spot. The National Garden offers greenery and seclusion, while Lycabettus Hill provides panoramic views.
You can also go to the “Vrahakia” or Filopappou Hill to enjoy views of the Acropolis.

Day trip to Aegina
Technically it’s not something you do in the city center, but if the weather is nice, you can organize a day trip to Aegina with your partner.
You’ll enjoy the sea, take a break from the hustle and bustle of Athens, and indulge in sweets made with famous Aegina pistachios.
Wine at an atmospheric wine bar
Choose a small, dimly lit wine bar in Koukaki, Pangrati, or Kolonaki and sample Greek wine labels. The relaxed atmosphere helps the conversation flow… just like the wine.

Seaside walk along the Athenian Riviera
From Faliro to Vouliagmeni, the coastal road is ideal for a romantic walk by the sea. Stop for coffee or a meal with a sea view and enjoy a perfect Valentine’s Day.
Visit a museum
For couples who love art, a visit to a museum such as the Acropolis Museum or the Museum of Cycladic Art can turn into a special romantic activity.
You can continue your date with coffee or food and talk about what you saw.
Visit the planetarium
The shows at the Eugenides Foundation’s New Digital Planetarium on Syngrou Avenue are undoubtedly one of my favorite activities in Athens.
If there are screenings on Valentine’s Day—especially documentaries about the universe and the stars—I can’t think of anything more romantic. Afterwards, you can also take a walk around the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center across the street.
Cooking classes
On Valentine’s Day, you can do something special with your partner, such as attending cooking classes together.
In Athens, there are many places that organize such classes so you can enjoy quality time together.
If you don’t want to spend money, you can organize it at home. Find recipes online, start cooking together, create a romantic atmosphere, and enjoy the meal you prepared.
Ceramics or painting classes
In Athens, you’ll find many studios that organize ceramic workshops. There are also places where you can paint glasses or canvases.
It’s a unique activity you can enjoy together—and you’ll also take home what you create as a keepsake.
