Serifos is a beautiful island in the Cyclades for relaxing and unforgettable holidays.
The island has about 70 beautiful beaches and is an ideal destination for those who want to have a holiday away from mass tourism. Although in recent years it has also experienced great development.
The capital is the picturesque Chora of Serifos, which is built at an altitude of 200m and will charm you with its traditional Cycladic architecture.

Serifos is connected to Athens with regular ferries from the port of Piraeus. The trip from Piraeus to Serifos takes approximately 4.5 to 5 hours by normal ferry and 2.5 hours by speedboat.
Transportation in Serifos
In Serifos you should definitely rent a car. We went in September and the KTEL only had routes from Livadi to Chora and back.
In the summer they run a few routes to beaches as well, but they are few. Prices to rent a car are quite cheap compared to other islands, starting from 30€ per day.
Accommodation in Serifos
NŌSTOS Serifos
First of all, if you visit Serifos, I suggest you stay in Livadi, the port of the island, as it is much easier to get around and there are countless restaurants to choose.
We stayed at NŌSTOS Serifos, which is located 400m from Livadakia beach.
NŌSTOS Serifos opened in July 2023 and is a beautiful minimalist hotel with 17 rooms.

The staff greeted us at the entrance with cold water and cold towels -just what we needed on a hot day. Everyone was so kind and willing to help us with anything we needed.
We stayed in the Maxi Room, a huge room with the most comfortable bed, a balcony overlooking the sea and an outdoor heated jacuzzi.

The room was so nice that you honestly think about going out.

The hotel also has a gym for those who want to use it.

At NŌSTOS Serifos you will enjoy breakfast. It had everything. Delicious butter croissants, cheese pies, yoghurt with fresh fruit and eggs are just a few of the options you have.

If you visit Serifos I totally recommend it ! I will definitely go back.
What you have to see in Serifos
Livadi
Livadi is the port of Serifos. On the coastal promenade you will find countless places to eat or drink coffee/cocktails and especially at night it is a lively place.

You can grab an ice cream and walk along the pedestrian streets next to the sea and the palm trees. Livadi also has two beaches, Livadakia beach and Livadi beach. Both have fantastic waters.
Livadakia beach
Livadakia beach has sand, crystal clear turquoise waters and tamarisk trees that offer plenty of shade.
It has a beach bar for those who want their comfort, otherwise you can sit under the shade of the trees.

Chora
The largest villages of Serifos are Livadi and Chora in the southeast. The two villages are only 10 minutes apart by car.
Chora consists of two neighborhoods, Upper (Pano) and Lower (Kato) Chora, which have expanded and merged over time. Pano Chora is known for its narrow, ornate streets and plenty of places to enjoy magnificent sea views.

On the other hand, Kato Chora is connected to Livadi, the island’s main port, by a pebbled, winding path.
It is a picturesque Cycladic settlement with cobbled alleys and whitewashed houses with blue windows, built next to each other on the rocky terrain of the island.

Pano Piazza
For coffee, cocktails or a delicious meze in Chora, go to Pano Piazza. The square is dominated by the neoclassical building of the Town Hall with its bright colour, next to the Cathedral of Agios Athanasios.
Each shop has colored chairs in a different color to stand out, so the place is full of color and joy.

Venetian Castle
The best view is undoubtedly at the highest point of the Chora. From the chapel of Agios Konstantinos you will be able to see beyond Livadi to many Cycladic islands.
The castle was built in the 15th century. The densely built houses around it created an additional fortress to protect against invaders.

Serifos windmills
Don’t miss to visit the famous windmills of Chora for the best photos, especially at sunset! They are the must-see spot for all visitors.

Kalo Ampeli Beach
Small beautiful bay with turquoise waters and golden sand. There are no trees and no shops on the beach, so it is advisable to provide shade and water. Access is by a path (about 15-20 minutes walk).

Agios Sostis Beach
These are essentially 2 beaches formed on either side of a narrow strip of land.
They have lovely turquoise waters and one is sandy with tamarisks, while the other is pebbly. They are not organised, so make sure you have the essentials with you.
Psili Ammos
Psili Ammos is one of the busiest and most beautiful beaches in Serifos.
The fine, golden sand, turquoise waters and tamarisks make for a magical setting. The beach does not have umbrellas and sunbeds, but it does have tavernas for eating after your bath.
Food in Serifos
Plakes
In Chora of Serifos we ate at Plakes, a restaurant with delicious food and a perfect view of the windmills and Chora.
We ate a fresh salad with rocket, cherry tomatoes and parmesan, perfect feta cheese with honey and soutzoukaki with sauce and rice.
At the end they brought us a treat, yogurt with strawberry sirup.

Stou Stratou
At Pano Piazza in Chora, we sat at “Stou Stratou”, the shop with the blue chairs. We tried dakos, sausage and sfakian cheese pie with honey.
It’s the best place to go if you’re looking for something for breakfast or a snack.

Tootsie
Of course we always eat souvlaki on our holidays on a Greek island. For souvlaki we visited Tootsie in Livadi, where they make their own gyros.
We tried souvlaki with chicken gyro and they were delicious. The portions are quite large and the souvlaki cost 4,20€.

Lepi Lepi Seafood
At Lepi Lepi we of course tried seafood. You will find it in Livadi with the tables located next the sea.
The place has a nice aesthetic and everything we tried was quite tasty. We ate squid, fried anchovy fillets, fresh potatoes and perfect fried cheese on sticks with sesame and red pepper jam sauce.
At the end we were also had a treat, raki with cherry.

Polyfimos
Again at Livadi, at tables by the sea, this time we had meat. At Polyfimos I recommend you to try a delicious portion of kebab with yogurt sauce.

Scoop Serifos
If you want to eat dessert, then I recommend Scoop for ice cream and super donuts.
We tried chocolate and biscuit doughnuts and they were fluffy, without leaving you with the taste of oil at the end. You can also make them stuffed with Nutella or other flavours!

Indigo
Indigo is the best choice for coffee and brunch. It’s a beautiful place with nice boho decoration and wooden tables on the sea.
It has several options for breakfast dishes, desserts like delicious pancakes and waffles, and for lunch it has a variety of burgers, tacos and bao buns.
