Berlin is the capital and largest city of Germany. It is a beautiful city with a rich history and is definitely worth a visit.
How many days do you need to stay? I recommend four. Four days are enough to see everything.
Transportation in Berlin
To get around Berlin you will definitely need public transport. I think that the best option is to get daily (or multi-day) transport passes.
We stayed in Berlin for three days, so on the first day we bought a 24-hour pass for the ABC zones – which included the airport – and cost 10.40€ and the other two days we bought daily passes for the AB zones, which cost 9.50€.
Accommodation in Berlin
The Circus Hotel
Centrally located you’ll find the Circus Hotel, the perfect hotel to stay in Berlin. Across the street from the building you’ll also find The Circus Hostel, in case you’re looking for a more affordable solution and want to meet other travelers.
The philosophy of The Circus: hospitality based on the social nature of travel and sustainability. I believe that it’s very important to choose these kind of hotels because we help the planet while traveling!
For example, breakfast is not an endless buffet of food that goes to waste every day, but has a menu from which you can choose the dishes you want and they will prepare them at that time.
My favorite dish was butter croissant with scrambled eggs, truffle cream and salad.

They also plant a tree for each direct booking, while guaranteeing the best rate to their guests. So you can save money and save the planet at the same time!
Just a few days before, they reached the new mark of 20.000 planted trees. The Circus Hotel is partly powered by solar panels and the excess heat from their air conditioning is converted into electricity. The eco-friendly cooling/heating system at The Circus Hotel is the most sustainable solution on the market. Also their housekeeping uses only environmentally friendly cleaning products.
The room was warm, comfortable, with a great view and the fluffiest pillows I’ve found in a hotel. If you visit in spring and summer, have breakfast in the backyard, it’s gorgeous.

The Circus Hotel organizes various activities for guests, including tours of the city and social nights at the hotel bar. These nights are a great opportunity to socialize and meet new travelers and the hotel team.
Restaurants in Berlin
The Dawn
You’ll find The Dawn on the rooftop of the Bikini Berlin shopping mall and it’s the best place for brunch in Berlin. It has a huge glass window overlooking the zoo and cute monkeys playing.
The dishes we tried were delicious, with very large portions and quite good prices. We tried poached eggs with cheese and bacon, scrambled eggs with avocado and wonderful sauce, and delicious pancakes with chocolate sauce.

We combined them with hot coffee and fresh orange juice. I highly recommend it for your trip to Berlin.
Mina Restaurant
Mina Restaurant is an elegant and minimal restaurant with unique Asian flavours.
We tried all four bao buns on the menu. One was with marinated chicken and pesto sauce, the second was with lamb and sweet potato chips, and the last two are the vegan options of the restaurant.
The most special was the one with unhydrated vegetables, feta cheese, fresh basil and dan dan sauce. If you like spicy you should definitely try it.

We also chose marinated shrimps with delicious sauce, Thai red curry asiancini, fried squid and a pretty spicy dish, the salt pressed cucumber.
Of course, dessert could not be missing from this meal. We had a special open-faced ice cream and soft cookie sandwich and it was a dream.

Definitely worth a visit, it’s one of the most unique restaurants you can find in Berlin.
Burger Vision
If you want to eat the best smashed burger in Berlin, then go to one of the Burger Vision restaurants.
We tried smashed burger with bacon, caramelized onions and bbq sauce, burger with double beef burger and cheddar, plain fries and twisted potatoes.

The portions are very filling, the food is delicious and the prices are affordable, I highly recommend it.
Curry 61
Of course you can’t visit Germany and not try sausages. We chose Curry 61, probably the most famous place in the area serving sausages, curry sauce and French fries.
We tried the Berliner Currywurst with fries, the same sausage but plain, and the Chili Krakauer with bread which was a bit spicy. For all of these plus a portion of fries on top we paid 14 euros. Definitely visit if you ever go to Berlin and you will remember me!

Sightseeing in Berlin
Checkpoint Charlie
A historic attraction with a very important history. It is an outpost that demarcated East and West Berlin.

Gendarmenmarkt
Gendarmenmarkt is a nice spot to visit, as there is a French cathedral and a German cathedral, especially towards Christmas time, where everything is decorated is very nice.

Bebelplatz
Bebelplatz was my favourite square in Berlin, as it is surrounded by beautiful imposing buildings such as the Berlin Opera House and the Humboldt University Berlin.
You can walk from there to Museum Island and the famous Berlin Cathedral.

Museum Island
Museum Island is an impressive place on the River Spree that houses a total of five famous museums. I wanted to visit the Pergamon Museum, but unfortunately it was closed due to construction.

Berlin Cathedral
One of the most famous parts of the city is the majestic 19th century cathedral overlooking the city.
We only saw the impressive building from the outside, because I think that 10 euro per ticket just for a church unnecessary and pointless.

TV Tower
The tower is 368 meters high and can be seen from most parts of the city. You can pay an entrance fee of 25 euros and go up to 203 metres, and there is a revolving restaurant at 207 metres.

Alexanderplatz
Behind the TV Tower you’ll find Alexanderplatz, a place full of shops and restaurants.
Brandenburg Tor
Brandenburger Tor is located in the centre of Berlin and is perhaps the most recognisable symbol of the city.
If you visit Berlin you can’t miss seeing it, although when we went it was under construction, so it was a huge disappointment.

Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe
Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe is one place you shouldn’t miss on your trip to Berlin.
It’s a memorial to the millions of Jews in Europe who were murdered by the Nazis and reminds us of important pieces of history that we should never forget.

Reichstag
The Reichstag Building is Berlin’s city hall and has free admission as long as you have a booking. The most impressive thing is the glass dome on the roof of the building.

Victory Column
The Victory Column is dedicated to the victory in the Prussian War. Entrance to enter costs 4 euros.
On the ground floor you will find various information about monuments of Germany and beyond, and after climbing the -many- twisting stairs to the top, you will enjoy the wonderful view from above.

Temple of Emperor William
The Temple of Emperor William is now a ruin of an old church from the 1890s, destroyed in the war, and admission is free.

Kurfürstendamm
A central avenue below the Emperor Wilhelm’s Church, along which countless department stores, restaurants and hotels in the city are located.
East Side Gallery
Last but not least, don’t miss the East Side Gallery, a preserved piece of Berlin’s crumbling wall filled with impressive graffiti by artists dedicated to its fall.
