The most instagrammable places in Istanbul

Balat

Balat is the most beautiful and colorful neighborhood in Istanbul. Every corner is full of colors, flowers and graffiti-artworks.

The colorful houses of Balat are permanently in every Istanbul guidebook.

Hagia Sophia

Hagia Sophia is a unique place in the world. Entrance is free, as it has now been converted into a mosque and women must cover their hair to go inside.

If you want to take pictures, you have to go very early in the morning, before the square is full of people.

Already at 9am the square is full of groups of tourists and queues to get into Hagia Sophia.

Blue Mosque

The Blue Mosque can be found across the street from Hagia Sophia and is also free to enter, except during prayer periods.

Galata Tower

One of the most famous places in Istanbul is undoubtedly the Galata Tower. Around it you will find some of the finest cafes and restaurants in the city.

Suleymaniye Mosque

Of the many mosques in Istanbul, the Suleymaniye Mosque is in my opinion the most impressive.

It is located at the top of one of the seven hills on which Istanbul was built and is home to the tombs of Suleiman the Magnificent and his wife Hurrem Sultan.

Ortaköy Mosque

The Ortaköy Mosque is located on the Bosphorus near the famous 15th of July Martyrs Bridge.

It is definitely one of the most beautiful places for photos so you should go early for photos. The best time you can go is during sunrise to get the best colors as well.

Arnavutköy

The Arnavutköy neighborhood is one of the most beautiful and well-preserved villages on the European side of the Bosphorus.

It has roots in antiquity and in its heyday was the largest Greek village on the Bosphorus, with more than 6,000 Greeks. It has beautiful houses next to the Bosphorus to take stunning photos.

Dolma Bahce

The Dolma Bahce Palace is located on the Bosphorus, on the European side, between the districts of Kabatash and Besiktas and is imposing and is considered to be perhaps the most important architecturally significant Sultan’s palace in Istanbul.

Dolma Bahce was the residence of the sultans and the administrative centre of the Ottoman Empire from 1856 to 1922. Only for the twenty years from 1889 to 1909, the seat was moved to Yildiz Palace. For more than 62 years, since 1960 it has been operating as a museum.

It is definitely worth a visit, as it is a perfect place for photographs.
