THE 6 BEST ICE CREAM SHOPS IN ATHENS

Athens has great ice cream shops and ice cream is just what we need during summer.

From young children looking for ice cream in the coolers of the kiosks in cups, cones, rockets and sandwiches, to adults seeking the best flavours in gelaterias, ice cream is undoubtedly the favourite cool memory of summer.

But where to eat the best ice cream in Athens?

The best ice cream in Athens

Django

Django has travelled from Syros and you’ll find it in Koukaki (15 Veikou Street) in a tall corner building, to taste the most delicious gelato in Athens.

My favorite flavor not to be missed is the smoked hazelnut.

Also the pistachio gelato is a special experience. It’s made from the fruit and whether you eat Aegina pistachios or a spoonful of Django’s gelato, it’s one and the same.

Iceroll

I learned about Iceroll in Glyfada, but now you can find it in several places in Athens.

It stood out for its special technique, where milk is mixed with fruit and other ingredients on a frozen surface to make an incredible ice cream.

If you want to go overboard, get a sweet brownie or cheesecake in a iceroll to pair with ice cream.

L’Arte del Gelato

At L’Arte del Gelato, you’ll taste fresh gelato with delicious Italian-inspired gelato flavors.

You’ll find it in Glyfada, Ilioupoli, Psirri and a little further away… in Ios.

The best? It has hundreds of flavors that rotate daily, so you can try countless flavors.

Sugar Killer

Sugar Killer (21 Georg. Olympiou 21, Athens 117 41) is my most recent discovery in Koukaki and I loved it from the first moment.

Fresh ice cream with special flavours and the best part of course is that all the ice creams are sugar free and vegan.

Some of the flavors you must try are the vegan ferrero, salted caramel, dark chocolate (spicy or plain) and strawberry with brownie bits. Of course don’t miss the (my favorite) hazelnut and peanut.

Kokkion

At Kokkion (Protogenous 2, Psirri ) you’ll find a wide variety of classic and vegan options.

For those who want to try something different, apart from the classic flavours, there’s the raw Almond and Tonka bean ice cream, the peanut ice cream with caramel and chocolate chips and the unique 58% cocoa flavoured chocolate ice cream with passion fruit.

Fatto a Mano

Last but not least, Fatto a Mano in Peristeri (21 Kostas Varnali Street) presents flavors from another planet!

Some of the signature flavours are the ice cream with loukoumi, bergamot and pistachios from Aegina, the ice cream with Cretan anthotyro with thyme honey and the ice cream… rakomelo!

Want more? Tangerine mascarpone, tsoureki, rice pudding, avocado and cinnamon with raisins and raki are some of the many flavours you’ll find at Fatto a Mano. Of course there are the classics, but why not try something different?
